Fourteenth Annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Underway

Collegiate baseball and softball teams representing over 20 states will converge on Lee County over the next four weeks. The "Cusic" has become a fan favorite, spawning college reunions as well as family vacations for the past fourteen years. This year's Cusic boasts 252 teams, comprised of 142 women's softball and 111 men's baseball teams from primarily NCAA Division II and III institutions.  Florida Gulf Coast University will be included in this year's program.

Games will start Thursday, February 26, due to today's inclement weather. A complete schedule can be viewed by visiting www.leeparks.org, selecting "Athletics," then to "Collegiate Classic."  Games will be played at all major Lee County, City of Cape Coral and City of Fort Myers baseball and softball facilities (excluding Spring Training facilities). Over 6,000 athletes will be participating in this year's Cusic.

The tournament was named after Gene Cusic, a former Lee County Parks and Recreation employee who started the program (see attached history).
