FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 27, 2004) – Construction work will begin June 1 at the intersection of Daniels Parkway and Treeline Avenue to accommodate the new entrance to the Midfield Terminal Complex at Southwest Florida International Airport. The work also will affect the portion of Treeline Avenue that runs through Jetport Commerce Park south of Daniels Parkway. Travelers departing on flights from the current terminal should allow extra time for possible construction delays.
During the next two months, drivers should expect periodic lane closures and lane shifts, construction equipment in the vicinity and limited nighttime closure of the Treeline/Daniels intersection for the installation of overhead-sign structures. The public is reminded to proceed cautiously through the construction zone.
Treeline Avenue is
being extended to connect Daniels Parkway to Alico Road. The extension, which
parallels I-75, will provide southern access to the new Midfield Terminal. The
roadway is scheduled to be completed in August 2004 and could be open to traffic
by the fall.
The $438
million Midfield Terminal Complex, under construction south of the airport’s
runway, is scheduled to open in 2005. The new 28-gate terminal will replace the
airport’s existing 17-gate terminal building. For more information, log onto
