The Lee County Local Planning Agency will hold a public hearing to consider the adoption of the proposed Development Agreement between Lee County and Friends of BOCA, on Monday, May 20, 2024. The hearing will commence at 9:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as can be heard, in the Lee County Administration Building East, 2201 Second Street, 1st Floor, Room 118, Fort Myers, Florida.

The Friends of Boca Grande Community Center, Inc., (the "Friends of BOCA") proposes the construction of substantial improvements to the county-owned Boca Grande Community Center located at 131 First Street West, Boca Grande, Florida 33921, including the construction of a new auditorium. The project will be funded and constructed by the Friends of BOCA, and upon completion will be owned and maintained by the County pursuant to Lee County Administrative Code 5-10, in accordance with the Florida Local Government Development Agreement Act, F.S. 163.3220, et seq., and Ch. 2, Art. III of the Lee County Land Development Code. The proposed Development Agreement may be obtained at the Department of Community Development located at 1500 Monroe Street, Fort Myers, Florida, telephone number (239) 533-8585.
The subject property is zoned RS-1. The subject property is currently used as a park, with associated park buildings (approximately 20,854 s.f.) and a school (7,115 s.f.) on the southeast corner. The maximum building height permitted on-site is 31' NGVD. The permitted uses in the RS-1 zoning district are listed in the Land Development Code (LDC) Table 34-694, which includes Parks, Group I as defined in LDC Section 34-622(c)(32) and Schools, Noncommercial – Lee County School District.
A second Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, and will commence at 9:30 a.m., or as soon thereafter as can be heard, in the Board Chambers, 2120 Main Street, Fort Myers. Florida.
This meeting is open to the public. Interested parties may appear at the meeting and be heard with respect to the proposed agreement. A verbatim record of the proceeding will be necessary to appeal a decision made at this hearing.
