Update - June 7, 2022
The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted to approve an agreement for repairs to the boardwalk at Hammond Stadium. Bliss & Nyitray Inc, the structural engineer of record for the 2014-15 renovation, has agreed to pay the cost of remediation of structural issues. Commissioners also authorized the use of Tourist Development Tax funds to pay for waterproofing the boardwalk.
Work is expected to begin this summer. The county will coordinate with the
Mighty Mussels as their season progresses.
More details can be found in the County's
news release.
Work Completed in Time for Spring Training
The Boardwalk section of Hammond Stadium at the Lee County Sports Complex was reinforced for spring training 2022. The county coordinated the necessary shoring work with its partners, which was completed before spring training began.
The reinforcement is an agreed-upon, safe interim solution as the county and its partners work toward a final remediation plan for the Boardwalk.
The reinforcement plan was created and reviewed by professional engineers licensed in the State of Florida. The county was confident about the safety of the Boardwalk with this plan in place. The public's safety remains our top priority.
