About Lee County

Lee County was founded in 1887 and became a Charter County upon approval of the voters on Nov. 5, 1996, effective Jan. 1, 1997. The County encompasses 1,212 square miles and is home to various birds, wildlife, and ecosystems that make the area perfect for work and play.

Board of County Commissioners and Government

The five-member Board of County Commissioners is the legislative and governing body of Lee County, FL. Each County Commissioner is elected at large for a maximum of three, four-year terms of office. Each Commissioner represents and resides in one of the five Commission Districts. Each November, the Board elects a Chairman who serves as its presiding officer.
