PUBLIC NOTICE

2009 LEE COUNTY VALUE ADJUSTMENT BOARD

Please be advised that on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., and continuing thereafter until completed, the 2009 Lee County Value Adjustment Board will convene in the East Room of the Old Lee County Courthouse, 2120 Main Street, Fort Myers, Florida, to consider those matters, pursuant to Florida Statutes, Chapter 194, as to the following purposes:

1.   Hearing petitions relating to assessments filed pursuant to Florida Statutes 194.011(3).

2.   Hearing complaints relating to homestead exemptions as provided for in Florida Statutes 196.151 (Homestead Exemptions).

3.   Hearing appeals from exemptions denied or disputes arising from exemptions granted upon the filing of Exemption Applications under Florida Statutes 196.011.

4.   Hearing appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals and classifications

5.   Hearing appeals concerning homestead assessments as provided for in Florida Statutes 193.155

Said Petitions may be referred to hearings conducted by Special Magistrates at the Constitutional Officers Complex, 2480 Thompson Street, Fort Myers, Florida or at other designated locations as needed.

A list of the following applications, whether wholly or partially approved or denied, is maintained by the Lee County Property Appraiser and is fully available for public inspection at the Lee County Property Appraiser's Office, 2480 Thompson Street, Fort Myers, Florida between the working hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday:

Florida Statute 193.155 - Homestead Assessments.

Florida Statute 193.461 - Agricultural Lands.

Florida Statute 196.031 - Exemption of Homesteads.

Florida Statute 196.081 - Exemption for certain permanently and totally disabled veterans

Florida Statute 196.091 - Exemption for disabled veterans confined to wheelchairs.

Florida Statute 196.101 - Exemption for totally and permanently disabled persons.

Florida Statute 196.199 - Exemption for property owned by governmental units.

Florida Statute 196.202 - Property of widows, widowers, blind persons and persons totally and permanently disabled.

The Value Adjustment Board may discuss other related issues in addition to the above matters at the suggestion or request of the Chairman, members, or VAB Counsel prior to or during the meeting.

This meeting is open to the general public; however, no public input will be taken.  Although this meeting will be recorded, affected persons are advised that it may be necessary for them to make their own arrangements if a verbatim record is needed.
