Manatee Park Phase III

Start Date:

8/5/2014

Status: Completed

Details: Manatee Park is designed around the viewing canal between the Orange River and the Caloosahatchee River.  Manatees enter this canal to avoid cold water stress from the gulf during the winter months.  The viewing area provides park visitors with a unique opportunity to observe manatees in the wild.  The bank along the canal has eroded due to the strong currents in the canal.  This project will include the installation of 229 linear feet of seawall along the eastern shoreline of Manatee Park from the northern most visitor viewing area to the northern boundary of the canal which ends at State Road 80.  The embankment will be re-sodded and fencing along the work area will be repaired or replaced as needed.
