About Talking Books
Talking Books is a free national program that provides audio and braille books and magazines to people of all ages who cannot read traditional print. Lee County Talking Books is an Advisory and Outreach Center (AOC), in partnership with the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, with a focus on assisting patrons and promoting the service throughout our community.

Who is Talking Books for?
This service is available to people of all ages who cannot use standard printed materials because they have:
  • a visual impairment, low vision, or are blind
  • physical limitations that make it difficult to hold a book or turn a page
  • a perceptual or reading disability (like dyslexia) or a brain injury
What is available from Talking Books?
The Talking Books collection consists of:
  • audio books and magazines (in many languages)
  • braille books and magazines
  • free equipment (audio player, braille eReader)
  • access to BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download online service)
If you need help getting started with the BARD Mobile app, call us at 239-533-4780 so we can ensure you have an active BARD account. Then attend one of our Download Drop-In sessions to get personalized help. 
Getting Started​
If you are interested in receiving materials through Talking Books, download and submit the following application, which must be certified by a professional who can confirm eligibility. Details can be found on the form.


Application for Free Library Service: Institutions
Institutions such as assisted living communities, hospitals, schools, college or university disability centers may borrow equipment and reading materials for use by eligible readers to use individually or in a group setting. 

Institutions interested in an account may download and submit this application.
