  • ​Support full funding for the Bob Janes Triage Center (funded in part through the State Substance Abuse and Mental Health Reinvestment Grant)

2011 Legislative Priorities

Priorities

  • Oppose Taxpayer Bill of Rights platform (TABOR)
  • Support strategic lobbying on unfunded mandates issues (Medicaid increases to Counties)
  • Support the creation of Florida Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards (RPS)

Track

  •  Support Septic Tank inspections (delayed implementation by six months in Special Session, may be changed again in Regular Session)
  • Track State agency rulemaking bills (HB 1565 vetoed by Governor/overturned by Legislature in Special Session. Requires any regulation with cost of $1 million statewide impact over five years to be ratified by the Legislature. May adversely affect water quality and environmental regulation. Applies to regulations before adoption or in the process of being amended.)

2010 Legislative Priorities

Priorities

  • Oppose Offshore oil/gas drilling off the coast of Florida.
  • Support State energy bill (with the caveat the oil/gas drilling is not included in the bill)
  • Initiate/Support Pre-platted lands legislation (to be developed in cooperation with the City of Cape Coral and the SWFL Regional Planning Council)
  • Initiate/support growth management legislation (to be developed in cooperation with the Co. Attorney's Office, DoT, DCD and Smart Growth)
  • Initiate change to FDOT rules as they relate to road way landscape and design (letter from Roadway Landscape Advisory Committee attached)
  • Oppose unfunded mandates (especially those related to Dept. of Children and Families and Court related costs)

Track

  • We will be tracking many more bills including one to support the extension of the "paper ballot" system conversion from 2012 to 2016
  • Support the legislative platform for the Florida Emergency Management Preparedness Association (EMPA) which includes support of the EMPA Trust Fund and Assessment of Surcharge (to fix a loophole in the current assessment -updated assessment would be applied to the number of units or parcels included for coverage in a commercial or residential insurance policy).
  • Support the ban on texting while driving.
