Lee County is an entitlement community receiving Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These programs promote the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment and expanded economic opportunities, principally for persons of very low- and low-income. In order to receive these grants, the County must complete an Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (Analysis). The Analysis is a report of impediments or barriers that affect the rights of fair housing choice. It covers public and private policies, practices, and procedures affecting housing choice. Impediments to fair housing choice are defined as any actions, omissions, or decisions that restrict, or have the effect of restricting, the availability of housing choices, based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin. The Analysis covers the period of October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2024 and was created in collaboration with the City of Cape Coral and the City of Fort Myers.
