Update from Lee County
September 14, 2018
Work continues in The Villas
Lee DOT is has completed the first section of work in The Villas and is moving on to the second section. The county has a crew dedicated solely to this project while the department’s other operations crews continue to address numerous countywide issues as well.
The crew started at Woodland Boulevard between Austin Street and Beacon Street and worked north to Aldridge Avenue. DOT now has staked the right of way, placed door hangers between Chatham Street and Crest Lane from Woodland Boulevard to Harvard Avenue, and will start roadside ditch maintenance in this area this week.
The Lee County Department of Transportation is committed to the ongoing flood-mitigation work in The Villas. As explained in the letter sent via U.S. Mail to Villas property owners in early April, DOT’s work will take some time to complete. Rest assured, we have a crew dedicated solely to this project while the department’s other operations crews continue to address numerous countywide issues as well.
Some of the swale elevations and close-to-surface rock in the Villas have presented unanticipated – but not insurmountable – challenges. We ask that you please allow DOT crews to work while they are in your neighborhood so they can maximize the effectiveness of their time. Also, please remember that not all swales and issues will be addressed before the start of summer.
We appreciate your support as we continue our work to help mitigate flooding in The Villas.Lee County is doing flood-mitigation work in The Villas neighborhood to re-establish existing flow ways on County-owned right-of-ways.
Lee County DOT’s work is scheduled to begin April 30th, 2018. This project will be ongoing for many months. During the process, there may be traffic inconveniences. Lee County will provide the required MOT and will have personnel on hand to help control traffic. The starting point for this project will be on Woodland Boulevard at the intersection of Austin Street, and work will continue to the north, in sections, to Crystal Drive.
