How do I pay my toll bill?

Tolls can be paid using a compatible prepaid transponder or through the pay-by-plate system. When you pass through the toll plaza, there is no need to stop to pay your toll. If our system detects a compatible transponder, your prepaid account will be billed. If our system does not detect a transponder on your vehicle, a bill will be mailed to you using the pay-by-plate technology.

How does LeeWay work?

LeeWay operates using a transponder installed on the windshield inside your vehicle. As you pass through the toll plaza, an overhead antenna reads the transponder and automatically deducts the correct toll amount from your LeeWay prepaid toll account.

What are the benefits of getting a LeeWay transponder & prepaid account?

  • Prepaid account customers do not have to pay administrative fees charged for pay-by-plate.
  • Prepaid account customers receive a 25% discount at the Cape Coral & Midpoint toll plazas during off-peak hours. 
  • Prepaid account customers are eligible for discount programs and multiple vehicle discounts.

Why is Lee County moving to all-electronic toll collection?

Lee County is moving to all-electronic toll collection to improve traffic congestion, improve driver safety, and align with the standards of Sunpass plazas elsewhere in Florida.

What happens if I have two transponders from different tolling agencies in my car, such as either a SunPass/EZ-Pass and a LeeWay transponder?

It is important to choose only one toll transponder to use when going through the Midpoint, Cape Coral and Sanibel Causeway toll plazas to avoid getting double-charged. Customers should choose one transponder and remove all others from the vehicle. Please call the LeeWay Service Center at 239-533-9297 to discuss your options.

When do administrative fees resume for Pay-by-plate customers?

An administrative fee of $3 per toll will resume for customers who do not have a compatible prepaid transponder on October 1, 2021.

How do I avoid paying an administrative fee?

There are no administrative fee for customers using a compatible prepaid transponder. Compatible transponders include:

How do I get a free prepaid transponder?

You can get a transponder mailed to your house by creating an account with LeeWay and loading a prepaid account.

  1. Sign up for a LeeWay account Online
  2. Fill in your personal and vehicle information, and whether you want the free transponder, or the hard case transponder ($22).
  3. Load your prepaid account.
  4. Your transponder will be shipped to your address in about seven days.

New customers must also pay any outstanding pay-by-plate tolls.

How do I get a free prepaid transponder?

Can I get a transponder for other types of vehicles like motorcycles?

LeeWay transponders may be used on any multi-axle vehicle. Motorcycles require hard case transponders. Mounting instructions will be provided when you receive your transponder.

Can I get a transponder for a rental car?

Yes, you can purchase a transponder. There will be a $10.00 administrative fee for any LeeWay account that is closed within 60 days or less of the opening date. It is very important you call and remove the rental car information from your LeeWay account when turning the rental car in.

If your car is in the shop for repairs, LeeWay can issue you a temporary transponder for your rental. You will need your repair shop work order and rental car information.

Where is my LeeWay transponder accepted?

LeeWay transponders will be accepted on virtually every toll road and bridge in the state of Florida, North Carolina, Kansas, Oklahoma and parts of Texas.  Listing of Participating Agencies 

LeeWay Account Management Questions

How do I make changes to my LeeWay account?

24/7 Online Account Access: Log in to your online account to check prepaid balances and monitor usage. If you have not set up your online access, you can contact the LeeWay Service Center and we will email you a temporary password with instructions.

Phone: Customers can call the LeeWay office at (239) 533-9297 to make several types of updates. The hours of operation are: Mon - Fri: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Mail: Customers can mail correspondence for account changes and payments to 1366 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907.

24-Hour Drop Box: After-hours customers can place correspondence or payments in the secure drop box to the right of the front door.

What if I move or get a different car?

Call the LeeWay Service Center (239) 533-9297 to change your address or vehicle information. Be sure to remove your transponder from your old vehicle. If you have a sticker transponder, it cannot be reused on your new car and you will have to obtain a new one.

What is the difference between a discount program and a prepaid account?

You must have a prepaid account in order to register for a discount program.

A LeeWay discount program is an option where you pay additional upfront money to lower costs for each toll trip. They are beneficial for frequent Lee County Toll bridge users. Learn more about discount programs available here.

A prepaid account is set up to deduct toll trips. All transponders on the same account share the prepaid account balance. Customers must have a positive prepaid balance for a discount program to be valid.

How do I add funds to my prepaid account?

Enable Auto-replenish on your Leeway Account: Accounts with auto-replenish enabled will automatically bill an additional $30 (plus $20 for each additional transponder on the account) when the account balance reaches $10 left. You can enable auto-replenish online or by printing & mailing the pdf form to the LeeWay Service Center.

Add funds manually: You can add funds to your LeeWay prepaid account online, by phone, or by mailing or dropping off a check or money order to the LeeWay Service Center.

What is Auto-Replenish and Continuous Renewal?

There are two ways to conveniently enable automatic charging of your credit card for your prepaid account and/or discount programs. Both can be enabled on your account online or by printing & mailing the pdf forms to the LeeWay Service Center.

Auto-Replenish allows your account to automatically add funds to your transponder when you reach a low balance.

Continuous Renewal allows your account to automatically renew the discount programs on your account when you reach the end of your discount program's term.

Do I receive notifications about my prepaid account status?

LeeWay will send an email notification to accounts with a valid email address on file when your prepaid account has:

  • Reached a low balance threshold
  • Has insufficient funds to pay tolls
  • Notices are not sent to customers who have Auto-Replenishment enabled unless the card on file is not able to replenish the account

How do I close my LeeWay account?

You can close your account by contacting the LeeWay Service Center via mail, fax, or Email. If sending your request by mail, please enclose a letter or other signed statement that you wish to close your account. We will refund any unused balance from your prepaid account within approximately 2—4 weeks. Please note there is a $10.00 administrative fee for closing your account within 60 days of origination.

Compatibility Questions

What is the difference between SunPass and LeeWay?

SunPass is the state of Florida’s option for electronic toll collection. LeeWay is Lee County’s option for electronic toll collection and offers a local service center. You can only purchase a frequent user discount program with a LeeWay transponder. Both transponders work throughout the state of Florida.

Where else can I use my LeeWay transponder?

LeeWay transponders will be accepted on virtually every toll road and bridge in the state of Florida, North Carolina, Kansas, Oklahoma and parts of Texas. Listing of Participating Agencies

Billing, Refund, and Statement Questions

How will I be billed when I pass through a toll plaza?

If you do not have a transponder & prepaid account, you will be billed using pay-by-plate technology (license plate imaging). This invoice will be mailed to your address with a transaction ID and a reference number that allows you to pay your bill online, over the phone (239) 533-9297, or in-person at the Leeway service center (1366 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33907).

If you have a transponder & prepaid account, your toll will immediately be deducted from your prepaid account. Transactions will be posted that same day for trips over the Cape Coral, Midpoint, and Sanibel Bridges. Toll transactions outside Lee County may be delayed 24 to 36 hours.

What do I do if I have two transponders in my car and was billed twice?

Customers who are charged by multiple transponders should contact the LeeWay service center at 239-533-9297 and provide documentation that verifies both transponders were charged at the same date/time in the same facility/toll lane. Once verified, a refund is usually processed within two to four weeks.

Can I get a refund?

We will refund any unused balance from your prepaid account within approximately 2—4 weeks. Please note there is a $10.00 administrative fee for closing your account within 60 days of origination, and discount programs are not eligible for refunds.

How do I request a paper statement?

Customers can log in to their online account to view or print statements as needed at no charge. However, should you desire a monthly itemized statement to be mailed, the following will be deducted from your prepaid account:

  • 1 — 49 pages: $1.50
  • 50 pages or more:  $5.00 

What do I do if I incorrectly received an invoice in the mail?

You can dispute a toll transaction online using the license plate and reference number on the invoice. Call the LeeWay Service Center (239) 533-9297 for additional help.
