What is illegal dumping?

Illegal dumping is the act of disposing waste in unauthorized areas without legal permission to avoid paying disposal fees. Illegal dumping debris can consist of yard waste, appliances, tires, construction debris and other garbage.

Why is this a problem?

There are many reasons why illegal dumping is a problem in our community:

  • Land, soil, air and water pollution are primarily caused by illegal dumping creating health and safety risks

  • Expensive to taxpayers

  • Creates the possibility of fire hazard

  • Diminishes property values

  • Negatively impacts wildlife

HOW LEE COUNTY ADDRESSES ILLEGAL DUMPING

Illegal dumping has been an ongoing and consistent issue in Lee County. Fueled by empty lots, rapid growth and ongoing construction, the problem has led to unsightly messes and poor morale across the community. 


Combatting illegal dumping takes a collective effort and Lee County has a dedicated task force involving members of Lee County’s Solid Waste, Code Enforcement, Natural Resources and Department of Transportation (DOT) that conduct monthly inspections and sweeps to address the problem. Observers of illegal dumping should report it immediately:
